Alberta Ahailey aka ‘Makanaki’ aka ‘Clenches Charm’ aka ‘Mighty’ – I want to be a super star in sports

Female footballer, Alberta Yawo Ahialey is always willing to play, but petty injuries have hidden her from reaching where she desires, but now she wants to step up the level of bravery and leap to the domain of fame, fortune, favour and flavour.

She was born into

a sports family with both parents top sports personalities, Mercy Addy aka ‘Shower’an athlete and Steve Dotse, a boxer, both performed well at the national and international levels.

After experiencing professional football in Portugal at Sporting Braga and Atlhletico Ouriense in the past three years, she feels matured to move on for bigger challenges and bigger opportunities.

She plays at the attacking midfield (Number 10) position where great super stars like Pele of Brazil, Maradona and Messi of Argentina, Abedi Pele of Ghana and other great stars love to wear.

From a humble beginning at High Street SDA to Ghana Post Ladies to Halifax Ladies to the Black Maiden and the World Cup, she believes it is time to compete with the big girls, face bigger opponents to become bigger.

Alberta Ahialey represented Ghana for Africa at the finals of the girls under 17 FIFA World Cup in Azerbaijan in September 2012 and she learnt a lot.

She is remembered as a member of the Black Maidens who fought back with her inspirational hat trick and a brace from captain Priscilla Okyere to beat South Africa to qualify to the FIFA under 17 World Cup.

Ghana made it a hat-trick of appearances at the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup finals with a come-from-behind 5-1 win over South Africa in the final round qualifier in March 2012.

At the World Cup which Ghana won bronze, she scored two goals after playing four games.

After the competition, Alberta suffered a career-threatening knee injury but she has fully recovered and ready got back to her form. In 2018/19 season she scored seven goals in ten games, in 2019 /2020 at Ouriense she banged in eight goals in 15 matches.

Her favourite club is Chelsea Ladies though she has many favourites in clubs and players.

She loves any good nutritious meal that can be called a balanced diet to be physically, mentally and morally strong to dribble past tough defenders and shoot past goalies.

She loves gospel and hip life music, and loves to dance occasionally when in the mood.

On why she has many names she replies that the fans love her and give her different names all the time.

Her ambition is to succeed as an international football star scoring more goals for club and country and entering into the nominations for Africa, FIFA and World Best Player Awards.

Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo is her idol and she believes women’s football will develop in Africa, she however advises female players to train hard to play well and urged the media to promote the female game.

She was glad that many female journalists in Ghana are promoting the game, and the clubs are now playing on better turfs.

On her future, “I just want to hit and become the super star” she said.
